Understand your feed conversion (FCR)
Feed is usually your biggest cost, and feed conversion ratio — FCR — is the number that decides whether a batch makes money. It's simply the kilos of feed used per kilo of fish grown. Lower is better. Here's how Provamar keeps it honest.
Where the number comes from
- Feed used comes off your feed records; growth comes off your biomass samples and stocking count.
- Provamar works FCR per batch from those, so you never compute it by hand.
- Two biomass samples plus some feed is enough to start seeing a trend.
- If the numbers look off, it's usually a missing feed entry or a stale weight — the app points you at which.
Keeping it honest
An FCR is only as good as the records behind it: log feed on the day, weigh regularly, and keep the stock count current after mortalities and moves. Provamar flags when a batch's FCR drifts, so a feeding or health problem shows up as a cost signal with lead time — not as a surprise at harvest.
